Northwest Transmission Line - Terrace
The Northwest Transmission Line, the most important project in Northwest British Columbia, is poised to begin construction in early 2012. The $385-$504 million project received its environmental assessment certificate in spring of 2011 and given the nod by the provincial and federal government to begin construction. This transmission line will make mining activity feasible in the region that historically had to depend on diesel generators to extract minerals from the ground.
Kitimat Liquid Natural Gas Facility and Pacific Trails Pipeline - Kitimat
After receiving a 20 year export license to serve international markets from Canada’s National Energy Board in the fall of 2011, Kitimat LNG is expected to begin construction in the first half of 2012. Construction will include building a camp for the 2500 workers expected to construct the facility and the pipeline.
Ridley Terminals Expansion – Prince Rupert
Throughout 2012, Ridley Terminals will be continuing construction in the first phase of development. The first phase of development involved in site preparation of 44 acres of land, and replacement of two dumper barrels. Ridley Terminals is the most advanced coal loading and unloading terminal in North America.
Kitsault Molybdenum Mine – Nass Valley
If all goes as planned, the Kitsault Molybdenum Mine will begin construction at the end of 2012. The property owners, Avanti Mining Inc., submitted their environmental assessment application in late 2011 expect results by the summer when construction can begin. The mine requires $800 million in total funding, which is being finalized currently.
