Terrace-based consulting firm, Cambria Gordon, was honoured Feb. 1 to receive a WORKLIFE BC Award of Merit from the Ministry of Child and Family Development. The award was given to the company for implementing policies that encourage a balance between home and work obligations.
The local firm has grown from just four to 12 people in the last three years and as the business grows, so do the families of its employees. Collectively the employees have eight pre-school and school aged children between them, so maintaining balance between work and family is important. “We empower our staff to set their own schedules and priorities,” says co-owner Dave Gordon. “Some people work a compressed business week to spend more time with their children and others bank time or use flexible schedules to have more vacation time with family and friends.” The company has implemented a medical benefits program allowing employees to individualize their plans to benefit from the health services they require. “It’s a great business model because people want to work,” says Gordon. “As a
result we have talented, happy, dedicated employees and have experienced virtually no turnover.”
Cambria Gordon is proud to have been recognized as a leader in creating a place of work that recognizes the importance of offering respect, responsibility and autonomy to its employees.
Based in Terrace, BC Cambria Gordon is a science, technical and environmental consulting firm. Examples of Cambria Gordon’s diverse portfolio include hydro and mineral development, First nations consultation, fisheries and wildlife studies, social and
economic studies, communications and aerial photography.
