July 28 - NEW CREDIT UNION BUILDING OPENS!

A RIBBON cutting ceremony officially opened the Northern Savings Credit Union’s new home on the corner of Lazelle Ave. and Sparks. St. today at 9:45 a.m.

Staff and customers gathered around to watch the new office, built with energy efficient qualities like a rainwater harvesting system, be opened for operation.

Credit union CEO Mike Tarr said the company sees Terrace as the hub of the region and sees nothing but a beneficial future for the community.

“This represents, from our point of view….a very good test of our sincerity, in terms of being in Terrace and being here for a long time,” he said.

“As soon as we cut the ribbon….we’re open for business,” Tarr said, explaining that this is a functional opening, with a grand opening to come this fall.

Mayor Dave Pernarowski congratulated the company for its vision in its environmentally progressive stance in the building’s structure.

“I think that this state-of the art building from Northern Savings Credit Union really represents the dedication this company has to our community,” he said, adding that it was always a good sign to see new buildings and a company’s commitment to the community.

Northern Savings board member Nirmal Parmar said the building is a landmark in the history of Terrace.

“Years ago, some pioneers in this community had a dream,” he said. “That dream was to set up a member-owned institution. And the Terrace and District Credit Union came about from that dream. And that dream still lives on.”

This will be the first time all of the credit union’s branches, including its Paragon Insurance Agencies office, will be located under one roof in Terrace. The new building will house 45 employees.
