ANYBODY with an opinion on the plan to extend the provincial power grid up Hwy 37 North needs to make it known, says a local person helping organize an information session May 26.
That’s why Sarah Zimmerman of SAZ Communications will outline exactly how to send a comment on the proposed Northwest Transmission Line.

“The [Provincial Environmental Assessment Office] website isn’t exactly clear on how to do that online,” said Zimmerman.

“This is a critical time. People need to know that if they want their voice heard they need to make a comment before the deadline which is June 10.”

The June 10 deadline is one of several within the 180-day time frame set out by the assessment office to examine industrial proposals.

The comments are bundled together and form part of the information the assessment office uses to make recommendations about a project’s environmental viability to the provincial environment and energy and mines ministers.

Zimmerman has prepared a step-by-step presentation on what’s needed to send a comment.

The meeting, hosted by the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce, the Terrace Economic Development Authority and the Kitimat-Terrace Industrial Development Society, will also feature a 10-minute video called Energizing Northern B.C.’s Economy.
It was produced by the Northwest Power Line Coalition, a group of mining companies, regional governments and others who want the Northwest Transmission Line built.

Companies with promising mineral properties in the area are particularly keen backers, saying their only hope of opening mines is stable and cost efficient power. Supporters of the line have said it will boost the local economy and bring in much-needed jobs.
