Terrace to be featured in Vancouver Olympics 2010

TERRACE WILL receive some major coverage during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, as one of 15 different communities whose promotional videos will be featured at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Last Thursday Anne Murray, YVR’s vice president for Community and Environmental Affairs, was in Terrace to present Kermodei Spirit of BC representative Carol Fielding with a cheque for $10,000 in order to commission the production of the three minute video.

The theme, welcoming the world, is open for interpretation but the main focus is to show the world what makes Terrace great.

Fielding is now on the hunt for someone to create the video, with production beginning in July.

Fielding says she has already talked a few interested parties, but her hope is to find someone local.

This is an opportunity to provide Terrace with major coverage as the videos will play every day from October until March, possibly catching the eye of 10 million passengers who are expected to pass through the airport throughout that time period.

“We want the community to reflect what’s really important,” says Murray. “Is it artists, Hockeyville, business, whatever you want to profile.”

Some videos in the airport won’t have audio, so Murray suggests making something that is visually captivating as well.

After completion Terrace will be able to use the video in the community, at the airport here or at Kermodei Tourism.
