Climate & Geography

The north coast of British Columbia offers a lifestyle setting without equal.

Both Consumers and businsses in northwest British Columbia turn to Terrace for service and supply. The city’s central location is largely responsible for this: from Terrace, coastal and interior markets are only a short dirve away.

This strategic advantage – that of geography – has made Terrace the most efficient and economical distribution point in the Northwest. Further, this role has been augmented by a superb highway system, one which provides year-round access to the whole region.

Terrace enjoys a temperature climate moderated by Pacific Ocean influences: summers are warm while winters are snowy and mild. The area’s annual rainfall is comparable to that of most major west coast cities.

Terrace is nestled in a world-class wilderness. Not surprisingly, many local pastimes are tied to the outdoors and include mountain biking, hiking, salmon and steelhead fishing, and paddling the numerous navigable rivers.

In the winter months, Shames Mountain resort offers powder to impress even the best of skiers and snowboarders. (The site is blanketed by more snow than any other lift-served ski area in North America.) For snowmobilers, Stirling Mountain presents an incomparable network of sled trails, and on virtually year round basis, the nearby Pacific Ocean promises exciting times for sailors, whalewatchers, saltwater fishermen and divers.
